Game Objectives

You have to battle your way through from Level I, Zone 1 to Level 3, Zone 3, destroying as many Aliens as possible along the way. Each zone consists of two stages; the complete game has eighteen stages. On completing a zone, you will be given the password to the next zone. By using passwords, you are able to check out higher stages and determine the best approach to playing them, but without the Collectables you would have obtained on the lower stages, you will probably not be able to advance too far.

Initially your objective is to try to obtain the highest score you can, and get on the Highest Scores table. However, to fully complete the game, you must play through all eighteen stages from start to finish, without using passwords. Only then will you will get to see the special end picture and message.

In the one player mode, after choosing whether to be either the blue or red pilot, you then select either keyboard or joystick control (for craft movement and fire) by pressing fire on the keyboard or joystick. In the two player mode, keyboard/joystick control selection is made via the Pause Mode (see below), but is remembered between games.

Options Screen

Allows redefinition of craft movement and fire keys, setting of the number of players and the start level/zone, and allows the launch/death sequences (animation) to be turned on or off.

Gameplay

The more Aliens that you destroy, the more Collectables that appear. They can be picked up directly by your craft or by using a Ram (once you have collected this type of shielding). You will not get very far in the game unless you pick up Collectables, which give extra features such as Main Weapon upgrades, Shielding and Incendiary Weapons. Other Collectables give: force field shielding (short-term); smart bombs; extra (or less) speed; firing ability to the ram; more rapid incendiary weapon generator recharge; extra (or less) energy; bonus scores; and extra lives. See !Instruct for information on the various Collectables. Note that any extra Main Weapons and Shielding picked up on the current stage are lost when you lose a life, but any present at the end of a stage are then retained and cannot be lost (until all lives are lost). You start with four lives. The number of extra lives remaining is indicated on screen as round markers below your score.
